MasterRus21thCentury[edit]

I have been a member of Wikimedia Commons since November 28, 2018, but I became truly active only in the summer of 2021, taking my own photographs and uploading images from free sites. I also replaced low-resolution files with higher resolution ones until the end of October, which corresponds to the interest of the community. In this regard, I am applying for the status of a self-patrolled participant. Thank you. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 16:22, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MasterRus21thCentury, why did you get blocked on ruwiki? Kadı Message 16:40, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Kadı This is due to the fact that the quality of translations of articles left much to be desired and the Russian section of Wikipedia sought to grow much more actively (there are about 300 million native Russian speakers in the world). Moreover, until the moment of blocking on Wikipedia, I knew very little about the Foundation’s subsidiary projects.
As a result, I am actively developing Russian topics in Wikidata (the Russia wiki project was also founded) - this is the creation of new properties for various sites in the form of encyclopedias, reference books, etc. I do not lose hope of recovering, given that my range of areas on Wikipedia is extremely diverse - from journalism to history, etc. Moreover, in the spring of this year the application for unlocking was rejected.
On Wikimedia Commons, I have plans to replace photographs with high resolution ones (this applies to Russian government websites, including the website of the President of Russia kremlin.ru, which has subdomains putin.kremlin.ru and 20.kremlin.ru with high-resolution photographs). This is also a check for edits by anonymous participants, if any. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 17:02, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

源義信[edit]

Hi, I've been working on Commons for years with over 40,000 edits. Recently I found that I need the right to overwrite files uploaded by other users. While I am mainly working on old photographs and sometimes paintings, I need to overwrite many images of low quality (usually from bad sources) with high-quality images from better sources. Thank you. 源義信 (talk) 13:08, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Why did you make this overwrite with a totally different file at File:Vua Tự Đức.jpg. And even if you are the original uploader do not make major changes like you did on File:Painter Lê Thị Lựu and her husband Ngô Thế Tân in Bắc Ninh, 1935.jpg one year after the original upload. GPSLeo (talk) 09:28, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As for File:Vua Tự Đức.jpg, why do you think its totally different? The previous file was imported by other users from a Flickr page. The Flickr user just downloaded the same file as I uploaded later, cropped it, and made some adjustment. What I did was uploading the higher resolution original image without those improvements. 源義信 (talk) 13:44, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As for File:Painter Lê Thị Lựu and her husband Ngô Thế Tân in Bắc Ninh, 1935.jpg, firstly, I consider it as a minor change because the two versions are the same photograph while the previous one is cropped (but the subject of the image was not changed). Thus when I found the higher resolution image, I replaced the former with it. I read the guideline and did not found that there is a time limit for minor improvements (as for me it's neither substantial changes or completely unrelated files). Secondly, the file is only used in one article and the update won't affect the use of this file in the article. 源義信 (talk) 13:51, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Comment In my opinion this is a bit nitpicky. The user clearly has a large amount of quality edits and has been here long enough to deserve a permission like autopatrolled. —MATRIX! {user - talk? - useless contributions} 17:37, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm slightly concerned about this user's understanding of copyright. They had two videos speedily deleted six months ago for not actually having a Creative Commons license at YouTube. So I'm on the fence about granting autopatrol or not. Abzeronow (talk) 18:00, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

TheFlagandAnthemGuy[edit]

I am currently working on updating SVG flags and maps and I find myself in need of autopatrol rights for quick improvements and correcting mistakes, my own included. Thank you. TheFlagandAnthemGuy (talk) 01:57, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
On File:Standard of Presidents Emeritus of Italy.svg and File:Flag of Albania (1928–1934).svg you made major changes they would need to be uploaded as new files. GPSLeo (talk) 18:53, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Very well, I will act properly. Still I think this permission could be of help for future projects TheFlagandAnthemGuy (talk) 19:39, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

NorthTension[edit]

Recently I've just been attempting to resize to selection large files (specific Inkscape command, it shrinks the transparent canvas so an image doesn't have a ton of dead transparent space, cf this file history), harmonizing color schemes of flags (i;e the Soviet flags), and reverting and reporting vandalism issues (reports are on the Wikipedia Discord). While I still do vehemently disagree with the change in rules I would like to ask for autopatrol rights to continue to do the minor tweaks and fixes I've been doing for the past few months. I do recognize that there were multiple copyright violations listed on me but those were a result of uploading on a friend's behalf (actual warnings by Yann) and then resizing some of his files after he ended up uploading them themselves (error on HapHaxion's fault that caused me to accidentally get flagged). Since I've been kind of completely wiped as a result of that rule change and other stuff going on in my life I've been taking time recently to getting an actual proper understanding of COM:L and COM:TOO with the help of Mdaniels5757 and I'd like to be able to continue contributing the way I have for the past few months. Thank you. NorthTension (talk) 02:08, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

OfficialURL[edit]

About three years ago, I set out to replace the ugly gray backgrounds on the files in this category. They clashed quite heavily with the infoboxes in which they were used, e.g. w:Uniform polyhedron compound. Later, when I learned how to do it, I started replacing similar files' white backgrounds with transparent backgrounds, such as in this category (the files with Schlegel in their name). Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't have time to continue this change, and now the files are mismashed between transparent and not. I'd like autopatrol so I can complete this change. Thank you. viiii (talk) 23:31, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

SteveLLL[edit]

I need to update (overwrite) all road sign images in China that do not comply with the current standards after the new national standards are released.
@SteveLLL: If the new design is substantially different, you'd need to upload them as new files per Commons:Overwriting existing files. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 08:48, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The difference in the new standard is not significant, mainly due to the use of new fonts. On the other hand, these files are named in a specific format for template calls, and there is reason to think that these files need to be updated. Some of the existing documents comply with current standards, some use old standards, and some do not comply with any standards due to user deviations. There are so many of them (1k+) that it would be impractical to rename and change the template for every file that doesn't meet the standards. SuperSkaterDude45[edit]

I've been uploading images since 2021 and have around 1,156 edits as of writing this. I'm requesting auto patrol rights to upload either higher quality or full resolution historical images that were uploaded by abandoned accounts at Commons. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 11:26, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How do you explain the very high number of photos uploaded by you they are now deleted? GPSLeo (talk) 15:43, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@GPSLeo: Two of them (File:Peter Osgood 1970.jpg and File:West Germany vs Morocco 1970.jpg currently have no known authors but were deleted regardless of that. File:Héctor Pulido.jpg was deleted as a different image under the same name was uploaded by Cementero (despite no known authors nor publication being cited in a reverse image search for my own upload) while File:Celia Cruz 1971.jpg is actually in the public-domain per {{PD-Peru-photo}} although the undeletion request was unusually inactive. A majority of the others that were actually deleted primarily revolved around images relating to football where the links I had found them didn't give explicit authorship until their deletion requests. Regardless as of writing this, there are currently 11 images uploaded by me that were deleted in contrast to the nearly 1,000 other images I have uploaded that have remained here. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 03:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Even if the photograph in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Peter Osgood 1970.jpg didn't have a known author, it's still very likely under copyright as a British photograph, and therefore also still under copyright in the United States. We delete files when the copyright status is uncertain under COM:PCP. You as the uploader have the burden of showing that they are public domain or freely licensed. COM:EVID. Abzeronow (talk) 16:28, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Abzeronow: Pretty sure anonymous works are exactly in-line with {{PD-Mexico}} given no newspaper publication was cited either with the only known information being its date. Either way, that isn't really the main point for this request. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 06:41, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear Wikimedia Commons team, I hope this message finds you well. I would like to request Autopatrol permissions. I am a graphic designer and photographer, and part of my work often involves making improvements and minor changes to images and photographs, subsequently overwriting them. Having these permissions would allow me to contribute more efficiently, as without them, this action would not be possible. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to your response. Thank you. CarlosEduardoPA (talk) 23:27, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

PrusBis6187[edit]

Hello. I have been making edits to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons since late 2020. At this point, I have a little less than 1,000 edits on Wikimedia. The vast majority (if not all) of my edits on this site have been with editing existing election maps (namely in the US) and uploading some of my own. For a lot of my edits to maps uploaded by others, they have been to update them with new information, replace them with more detailed boundaries, or to correct mistakes in the old versions (namely counties being marked for the wrong party). However, since the update to rules on overwriting, it has been significantly more tedious to make corrections to maps (since I have now had to request overwriting permissions for every single map I want to fix or update in some way), so I would like to request Autopatrol permissions. Thank you. PrusBis6187 (talk) 22:30, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, I would like to request Autopatrol rights for this account. I mostly vectorise municipal coats of arms and flags. Nowakki[edit]

I need the right to rename files that start with "Sanborn Fire Insurance Map from". Approval from other interested parties given here. A redirect will be placed for the obsolete files. Thank you. Nowakki (talk) 02:42, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I still need to rename Sanborn maps. Why is this a problem?
All Sanborn Fire Insurance Map files are uniquely identified by: Name of Location, Year, Volume, Plate number
The person previously engaged in uploading them used none of these, but instead used Library of Congress-invented IDs:
shelf number (one per city), shelf volume, sequence number.
The old naming scheme is awkward to use (sequence number is usually not helpful when searching for a plate, a user will
have to click on a few files to narrow down where a plate is) and it is
also not the most natural way to organize the files. The year/volume/plate number scheme is used by the maps internally throughout and it is the indexing scheme one will naturally adopt when using the maps and it is also how Sanborn originally organized their work. I did not invent it.
I have already uploaded 80,000 new plates using the new naming scheme, so this is pretty much a foregone conclusion.
See User:Nowakki/test3, 19th century plates are with the old scheme, 20th century plates with the new scheme.

Thank you. Nowakki (talk) 22:22, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please request a bot flag. See your talk page. I suggest that you request at least a few manual renaming before being granted the right. Yann (talk) 08:46, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You mean i should actually do what is conveniently displayed in table form at User:Nowakki/test3?
What purpose would that serve? Nowakki (talk) 09:46, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The criteria include "or a large amount of justified renaming requests at Commons before they will consider granting the filemover right." BTW I merged this with your duplicate request above. Yann (talk) 10:29, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think that does not apply to a situation where rights are requested to fulfill a particular requirement.
I am not asking to be filemover for anything but this.
Either you want the files renamed or you don't. If i do a couple hundred the old way, you have nothing new to base your decision on. If you don't want it, say so now, not when you then have to repair the test run later. Nowakki (talk) 10:46, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Actually, it is your insistence to by-pass the requirement which is a problem. Why don't you just fill up a dozen manual requests (I asked for "a few".)? Yann (talk) 11:54, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Nowakki: I strongly suggest that you comply. What are you waiting for?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:00, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You really think that a person that moves a hundred files for the same reason becomes by that qualified to move files in general? the category is also one of a few that uses an unusual seperation of jpg and tiff files. i would harmonize that and like in the entire rest of the collection put tiff and jpg side by side in one category. Nowakki (talk) 13:58, 25 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Jeff G.: what else do you need. i have proven that i can click the buttons. lets hope my script has no bug.
i can give you a regexp that all renames will conform to, so that my actions can be limited properly. does wikimedia even have a procedure for that kind of thing? Nowakki (talk) 05:35, 26 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I know it's been marked as done, but I strongly support this. I don't think I've ever had to reject a single one of Chris' renames. --SHB2000 (talk) 23:54, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
